People may be surprised that Vietnam has a sizeable number of Christain, some sources estimated that 8.5% of Vietnam’s 95 million are Christian. Father Truong Buu Diep is only a few priests who were canonized by the Vatican. He was born on 1 Jan 1897 in An Giang province, he was ordained in 1924 after completing Major Seminary in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He returned to Vietnam to teach at Tac Say parish for 16 years, he also founded many parishes in Cambodia and Vietnam. He was martyred on 12 Mar 1946 to rescue his parishioners from captive.
To honor father Truong Buu Diep, the Vatican approved his canonization on 31 Oct 2014. Tac Say parish is considered the “Holy Land” in Vietnam which many Vietnamese Catholic pilgrims often visit every year.
You only travel to Tac Say parish by bus or motorbike. It is about 300 Km south of Saigon. The motels around the parish only cost less than $10(ask before booking a room).
