Nagorno-Karabakh is an autonomous region belonging to Azerbaijan, but it has a majority of Armenian population. Before Armenia and Azerbaijan were incorporated into the Soviet Union, this region was disputed between both countries. In the Soviet era, this region was transferred to Azerbaijan. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, both countries regained independence. They started to fight to control the region. By May 1994, Armenia controlled the region and surrounding area. It was about 14% of Azerbaijan’s territory. In September 2020, Azerbaijan attacked the region and surrounding area. By November 2020, Azerbaijan recovered the surrounding area and some parts of Nagorno-Karabakh. On 19 September 2023, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive after a year of blockage in the region. On 28 September 2023, the region leaders agreed to dissolve and start to reintegrate into Azerbaijan by 1 January 2024. There wasn’t a clear indication that Azerbaijan soldiers committed ethnic cleansing, but almost 170,000 ethnic Armenians fled to Armenia. Today the region is deserted. Is it an ethnic cleansing? It is no. I hope Azerbaijan forgets the past and treats ethnic Armenians as equal citizens. Azerbaijan is a secular country where all religions are respected.
The difference between Armenia and Egypt is, that Armenia always opens the door for ethnic Armenian. Even though, the guns had been silenced and no indication of ethnic cleansing. Egypt’s one-tone criticizes Israel commit genocide against Palestinians, Its evil tone keeps the border shut to get rid of Palestinian troubles. Many anti-war activists and Palestinian supporters, why don’t you pressure Egypt to open the border door to save civilians’ casualties? They should support Israel to fight against Hamas. Hamas is a radical Islamist organization like the Taliban and IS. Have you seen compelling evidence that Hamas committed genocide against Israeli civilians? It also uses civilian shields for its protection.
