Medical Tourism

Medical tourism is not new to many people around the world. Medical tourism is people who combine travel and medical treatments outside of their countries. I guess the history of medical tourism originated from immigrants who were from undeveloped countries and often visited their native countries. They saw the benefits of some medical treatments in their native countries. In addition, the prices of medical treatments in their native countries were cheap with acceptable quality. With the development of the internet and social media, all information is updated instantly. People from developed countries who had similar situations to immigrants that they began trying medical tourism. Over time, medical tourism was born.

Nowadays, people often use medical tourism for cosmetic and oral treatments. Breast augmentation, eye lifts, facelifts, nose lifts, and dental services are the majority of services for medical tourism. Why? Because cosmetic surgeries are not covered by health insurance. Cosmetic dental treatments may be covered by health insurance but pocket payout after insurance coverage is so expensive. For example, the cost of dental implants in Vietnam is 70-80% cheaper than in the US and Australia, or Canada.

Before you use medical tourism, you should use social media to contact the ex-pat’s destination for advice. For example, I had two teeth that were misaligned and a gap between teeth. I estimated that the cost of treatment in the US was $6000. It only cost me about $3000 including airfare, hotel, and dental fees in Vietnam. It usually takes about a week for cosmetic dental treatments without implants. I don’t know about other countries. When you go to Saigon, Vietnam for dental treatments. You should go to dental offices located in the districts that are 10 km from Saigon center. Why? Because the dental office rent is cheaper, so they charge you cheaply. The majority of dentists in Vietnam can speak basic English.

Disclamation: I am not liable for any damages, or losses caused by my advice. Medical tourism can be good for people who know it well. Always do research when you go outside your comfort zones.
