Hai Van Pass is a historical hillside road that travelers should visit when they are in Vietnam. It is about 500 meters high above sea level. It is well known as the ancient border between Vietnam and Champa about a thousand years ago. It is also considered a climate signifier between the northern and the south of Vietnam. Where the northern climate has four seasons(Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter), while the climate south of Vietnam has two seasons that are raining season and dry season.
When you drive or ride on Hai Van Pass, you can see one side of the road is mountain and another side of the road is sea. Before Hai Van tunnel was built, there were many trafic accidence occuring in Hai Van Pass that claimed many lives. It is also the border between Imperial of Hue(Hue province) and Da Nang city. Jeremy Clarkson was BBC host that featured on motoring programme Top Gear on 2008 Vietnam Special called Hai Van Pass is renowned for its scenic beauty.
How can you reach Hai Van Pass?
You can fly to Da Nang airport, it is only 25 Km north of center Da Nang city. If you want to see the beautiful view of Hai Van Pass, you shouldn’t use Hai Van tunnel. Walking or trekking is not advised, you can ask local friends or relatives if you have, otherwise you can book Grab to enjoy the view. There are several drink shops on the side of Hai Van Pass.
