It is an Eurasian owl, It became famous after someone broke into the zoo through the high fence and cut the metal gate of the cage to release it into the sky. This Friday is a year since it was released. Many people spread a rumor that a mysterious activist could be behind the crime of unlawfully releasing the owl. Many animal activists criticized the zoo for keeping the owl in a terrible condition where the cage was the size of a minivan not bigger than double the size of the owl’s wingspan of two meters. New York police still consider “the Robin Hood” as a criminal.
Many animal experts were surprised when the bird had been kept in a cage for thirteen years, It somehow activated Its natural hunting skills to survive. Many New Yorkers have seen the bird in New York public places or residents’ windows, but most of the time the bird lives around the woods or parks nearby. New York City has an abundance of rats to feed the birds, but many people are afraid that the owl may be in danger because the city rats often consume hazardous foods from garbage. Two years ago, an eagle was killed by a truck after it couldn’t fly. The vet who did the autopsy for that bird concluded that It couldn’t fly because It consumed a lot of hazardous foods.
The New York Zoo authority abandoned a plan to capture the owl in Feb 2023. A spokesperson for the zoo told reporters that they will have a plan for the bird depending on the bird’s future situation.
