I often read the English RFA News about Vietnam and other Asian countries. In today’s post, I only focus on Vietnam. I see many Vietnamese freedom fighters are all in prison or having their life troubles in Vietnam. I admired them, but I don’t think their fighting going anywhere. I feel sad when I see many fighters have been in prison for over a decade.
I met an old Vietnamese American in the US. He often used to go to Vietnam every year. He told me” I don’t like a lot of Vietnamese in here, they waste time-fighting against the Vietnamese government, instead of improving their family life in the US.”. I think he is right. According to the Human Rights organization, there are about 100 political prisoners in Vietnam. In my opinion, the Vietnamese government can build more prisons to house 5,000 or even 10,000 political prisoners. According to some online sources, there are about 5 million party members. I guess only 100,000 party members are loyal to the Vietnamese government because they get a lot of benefits. In comparison, you always lose. In addition, the Vietnamese government controls all newspapers, social media, police, the judicial system, army. I have lived in the US for about two decades, I follow news around the world. In addition, I did some research on many countries about economic development and freedom. Vietnam is ok, the country is not very good but not bad like what you guys thought. Maybe, many Vietnamese freedom fighters compare Vietnam to many Western countries. You can’t compare Vietnam to those countries. Why? For example, in the 19th century, Western countries had modern governments. At that time, Vietnam still had a monarchy government. It may take time for Vietnam to become a developed country and more freedom. Freedom often comes with a lot of responsibilities. I don’t think the majority of Vietnamese have the qualities and foundation to do that.
I remember when I was in Vietnam. I didn’t do anything to make a living, I just relied on money from the US to squander. It is twenty years now. I see some of my US relatives still send money to their Vietnamese relatives who are just like me twenty years ago. You see a lot of Vietnamese don’t want to change. My post is not to discourage you guys from fighting for a better Vietnam. I just want you guys to find alternatives to fight so that you don’t have to go to prison and have time for your loved ones. For example, you advise people to follow traffic laws and help people do the paperwork to combat a corrupt culture. Vietnam is no longer a communist country, I will explain in a later post. Don’t believe in many Western governments. They all normalized with the Vietnamese government. They don’t care about you, they raise their voices for fun or pretend to fight with you. Everywhere is the same, you fight with people with absolute power, you go to prisons, or even worse.
